Elipse

Raku fired and hand built pinch pot with red "Lobster" and white crackle raku glaze. The matte black finish is the result of leaving that area of surface bare and enclosing the piece in a large cooking pot at the end of the firing with sawdust which ignites from the heat of the piece as it is added while it is at near 1800 degrees farenhieght. The fire quickly fills the chamber with smoke allowing any areas of bare clay to trap the carbon from the smoke, leaving them with a permanent rich and deep matte black finish.
